We are pleased to announce the publication of Volume 79 No. 1 (May 2026) of the Society of Malawi Journal.
Among the highlights in this edition is an article on Prof. Emily Maliwa, based on research conducted by the Lost History Foundation. Prof. Emily Maliwa occupies a remarkable place in Malawi’s history as the first Malawian woman to pursue postgraduate studies, one of the earliest ten Malawians to earn a PhD, and the first Malawian woman to travel overseas for further studies.
Her pioneering achievements opened doors for generations of Malawian women in higher education and academic leadership, yet her story remains little known to many. This article contributes to ongoing efforts to recover and document the lives of trailblazing Malawians whose contributions have shaped the nation’s intellectual and social development.
